The personal-computer industry finally got its work-from-home boost. And a good bit of help from the kids.
Market research firms Gartner and IDC reported second-quarter PC sales data on Thursday, and this time there was quite a spread in the numbers. IDC reported nearly 72.3 million PC units shipped globally in the quarter—a jump of 11.2% from the same period last year. Gartner reported PC shipments of 64.8 million units, up just 2.8%.
